On Site Face Fit Testing Company In Merseyside

>If you require Face-fit testing for your company staff and are based in the Merseyside area, Fire Coral Ltd can provide fully trained members to come out to your place of work and provide qualitative face-fit testing for your employees. Health and Safety at work is a vital part of working life, and if your staff use Respiratory equipment (RPE) as part of their work equipment, it is in your interest that respirators work properly and fit correctly. The Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28 promotes the proper use of respiratory equipment, and Fire Coral LTD’s face-fit testing ensures that every staff member is trained and masks are correctly fitted.

Face-fit testing is required, especially if employees work with chemicals. The COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations state then when selecting RPE equipment, a face-fit test ensures the correct fitting for the wearer.

In paragraphs 9 and 10 of the HSE guidance note HSE 282/28 companies will find the requirements regarding the fitting of RPE. Although a guide, if the information is adhered to correctly, companies will be doing enough to comply with the law.

All masks should be fitted correctly to prevent inhalation of particles and dangerous chemicals. The range of masks which would need correct Face-fit testing include, disposable face masks, half masks, full-face masks, all filtering face pieces and negative pressure full- face masks, power- assisted full face masks plus self-contained and air fed breathing apparatus.

Merseyside Face Fit Testing

As part of the Face-fit test, it is required as stated in HSE document 282/28, that every employee that uses RPE should undergo 7 exercises, each of which will last 1 minute. If the employee fails to pass one of the tests, the whole series of exercises must be taken again. Every staff member should achieve a pass in this particular test. 10 minutes is to be allocated to every staff member taking the Face-fit test.

It is recommended by HSE 282/28 that the test exercises should be undertaken whilst performing movements such as walking on a treadmill, stepping motions on a stepper or cycling on an exercise bike. This should provide a simulation of physical work, which the mask wearer may be echoing in their daily work duties.

About Face Fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is a method that is used to identify how fitting a facepiece matches an individual. An inappropriate facepiece will substantially reduce the needed protection, so it is required to meet the safety criteria.

Furthermore, there are two types of Face Fit Testing - qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is specifically designed for testing of filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks but not full face masks, as it is based on tasting or smelling a bitter, sweet or odorous compound. Whereas quantitative is designed for all types of masks and is also known as Fit Factor. It is based on numerical calculations of the efficiency of the fit.

About Merseyside

Merseyside is a metropolitan county in North West England, with a population of 1,365,900. Taking its name from the River Mersey, Merseyside came into existence as a metropolitan county in 1974, after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972, and the county consists of five metropolitan boroughs adjoining the Mersey Estuary, including the City of Liverpool. Merseyside County Council was abolished in 1986, and so its districts (the metropolitan boroughs) are now effectively unitary authorities. However, the metropolitan county is still recognised for ceremonial and administrative purposes. Merseyside is divided into two parts by the Mersey Estuary: the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral is located to the west of the estuary on the Wirral Peninsula; the rest of the county is located on the eastern side of the estuary. The eastern boroughs of Merseyside border Lancashire to the north and Greater Manchester to the east, and both parts of Merseyside, west and east of the estuary, border Cheshire to the south. The territory comprising the county of Merseyside previously consisted of the county boroughs of Birkenhead, Wallasey, Liverpool, Bootle, Southport and St Helens. Birkenhead and Wallasey were part of the county of Cheshire, whilst Liverpool, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Southport and St Helens were part of the county of Lancashire.
