>Fire Coral Ltd is one of the UK’s leading providers of Face-fit testing for companies. If you are based in the Guildford area and your staff require the use of respirators, masks and respiratory equipment (RPE) to perform their work, in accordance to the Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28, Fire Coral Ltd are the professionals at your service. It is in your interest to comply with regulations set out regarding the use and fit of RPE. Face-fit testing not only ensures staff know how to use RPE correctly, but that the RPE fits correctly, then you will have documentary evidence that your RPE is correct.

It is required by the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations, that all staff should take a face-fit test to ensure tight fitting face pieces are correctly fitted.

For information regarding the correct fitting of RPE, companies can use the HSE guidance note HSE 282/28 (paragraphs 9 & 10). Although helpful, this information is only guidance for companies. If followed correctly, this information will provide enough guidance for companies to comply with the law.

About Face Fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is a method that is used to identify how fitting a facepiece matches an individual. An inappropriate facepiece will substantially reduce the needed protection, so it is required to meet the safety criteria.

Furthermore, there are two types of Face Fit Testing - qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is specifically designed for testing of filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks but not full face masks, as it is based on tasting or smelling a bitter, sweet or odorous compound. Whereas quantitative is designed for all types of masks and is also known as Fit Factor. It is based on numerical calculations of the efficiency of the fit.

About Guildford

Guildford is the county town of Surrey. England, as well as the seat for the borough of Guildford and the administrative headquarters of the South East England region. It is situated 27 miles (43 km) southwest of London on the A3 trunk road linking the capital to Portsmouth. The town has Saxon roots, and likely owes its location to the existence of a gap in the North Downs where the River Wey is forded by the Harrow Way. The town grew enough in importance by 978 to be the Royal Mint. With the building of the Wey Navigation and Basingstoke Canal Guildford was in the centre of a network of waterways that aided its prosperity. The Guildford pub bombing by the Provisional IRA in 1974 killed five people including four off-duty soldiers from the local barracks. The subsequently arrested suspects became known as the Guildford Four. It is believed that Guildford was founded by Saxon settlers shortly after Roman authority had been removed from Britain (which was c.410AD).
