Asbestos Training
IATP Accreditation
About the IATP.
The Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP) is an organisation set up to enforce quality standards in the provision of asbestos training. Members’ courses are audited by an external auditor and training materials are checked for quality.
Much like UKATA, the IATP are recognised by the Health and Safety Executive as a means of ensuring the regulatory requirements of training are met. Both of these bodies provide assurance to clients by means of audits to check standards are being maintained.
Additionally, both the IATP and UKATA spread news of good practise amongst their members.
At the end of the day, the minimum expectation upon an employer whose employees may work in areas asbestos could be present is to be sure they have been trained in line with the requirements laid out in Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
No law has been passed by the HSE that says training must be recognised by either of these bodies. However, clients and bodies such as CHAS will often stipulate that a certificate has been awarded by one of these so best to check!
