On Site Face Fit Testing Company In Southampton

>If your company is based in Southampton and you require qualitative face-fit testing for your employees, Fire Coral LTD can provide a range of training from fully trained providers. As part of your company health and safety remit, if you provide your staff with respiratory equipment (RPE) it is in your interest that the respirators fit your staff correctly, and are used and applied in the correct manner. To adhere to the requirements of the Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28, face-fit testing ensures that every staff member has a correctly fitting respirator.

Face-fit testing for company employees is required when respirators and facemasks have been selected for use with chemicals and materials such as asbestos, in accordance to the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations.

Using the HSE guidance note HSE 282/28 (paragraphs 9 & 10) will inform companies how to use and correctly fit RPE. This information is guidance for companies, but used correctly will be enough to comply with the law regarding the use and fitting of RPE.

Southampton Face Fit Testing

As documented in the HSE information 282/28 all Face-Fit Testing should include a series of 7 exercises, each performed for at least one minute each. Each staff member should achieve a pass result during the test. If one of the tests is a fail, the wearer must start the whole test again. This ensures that RPE is working, worn and fitted correctly. Each employee should have 10 minutes allocated to complete the series of tests.

It is recommended by HSE 282/28 that the test exercises should be undertaken whilst performing movements such as walking on a treadmill, stepping motions on a stepper or cycling on an exercise bike. This should provide a simulation of physical work, which the mask wearer may be echoing in their daily work duties.

About Face Fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is a method that is used to identify how fitting a facepiece matches an individual. An inappropriate facepiece will substantially reduce the needed protection, so it is required to meet the safety criteria.

Furthermore, there are two types of Face Fit Testing - qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is specifically designed for testing of filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks but not full face masks, as it is based on tasting or smelling a bitter, sweet or odorous compound. Whereas quantitative is designed for all types of masks and is also known as Fit Factor. It is based on numerical calculations of the efficiency of the fit.
