>If you require Face-fit testing for your company staff and are based in the Shropshire area, Fire Coral Ltd can provide fully trained members to come out to your place of work and provide qualitative face-fit testing for your employees. Health and Safety at work is a vital part of working life, and if your staff use Respiratory equipment (RPE) as part of their work equipment, it is in your interest that respirators work properly and fit correctly. The Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28 promotes the proper use of respiratory equipment, and Fire Coral LTD’s face-fit testing ensures that every staff member is trained and masks are correctly fitted.

If your company handles dangerous chemicals and materials such as asbestos, the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations state Face-Fit tests are required when selecting RPE equipment for employees.

For information regarding the correct fitting of RPE, companies can use the HSE guidance note HSE 282/28 (paragraphs 9 & 10). Although helpful, this information is only guidance for companies. If followed correctly, this information will provide enough guidance for companies to comply with the law.

Shropshire Face Fit Testing

Face Fit testing, as recommended by the HSE information document 282/28 should include a series of 7 exercises to be performed for one minute each. Each wearer must pass these exercises during one single testing period. If one of the exercises fails, the whole test must be taken again. 10 minutes is the minimum time required to conduct the 7 exercises per staff member, which also allows trainers to show how to use and wear the mask correctly.

About Face Fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is a method that is used to identify how fitting a facepiece matches an individual. An inappropriate facepiece will substantially reduce the needed protection, so it is required to meet the safety criteria.

Furthermore, there are two types of Face Fit Testing - qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is specifically designed for testing of filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks but not full face masks, as it is based on tasting or smelling a bitter, sweet or odorous compound. Whereas quantitative is designed for all types of masks and is also known as Fit Factor. It is based on numerical calculations of the efficiency of the fit.

About Shropshire

Shropshire is a county in the West Midlands region of England. It borders Wales to the west. Shropshire is one of England's most rural and sparsely populated counties with a population density of 91/km2 (337/sq mi). The shire county and its districts were replaced by a unitary authority on 1 April 2009. The borough of Telford and Wrekin, included in Shropshire for ceremonial purposes, has been a unitary authority since 1998. The county is centred around six main towns starting with the county town of Shrewsbury, which is culturally and historically important, although Telford, which was constructed around a number of older towns, most notably Wellington, Dawley and Madeley, is today the most populous. The other main towns are Oswestry in the north-west, Newport to the east, Bridgnorth in the south-east, and Ludlow to the south. Whitchurch and Market Drayton in the north of the county are also of notable size. The Ironbridge Gorge area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, covering Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale and a part of Madeley. There are, additionally, other notable historic industrial sites located around the county, such as Broseley, Snailbeach and Highley as well as the Shropshire Union Canal.
