>If your company requires the use of respiratory equipment (RPE) and are based in Lincolnshire Fire Coral LTD can offer qualitative Face- Fit testing from our group of fully trained providers. Face-fit testing ensures your employees know how to use respiratory equipment correctly and that facemasks fit properly. The Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28 offers information about the correct use of RPE and how the respirators should fit. Fire Coral LTD can come into your company and ensure that all staff are aware of the risks of incorrect fitting respirators.

The COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations require that all company staff using respirators should take a face-fit test to ensure tight fitting face pieces fit correctly.

In paragraphs 9 and 10 of the HSE guidance note HSE 282/28 companies will find the requirements regarding the fitting of RPE. Although a guide, if the information is adhered to correctly, companies will be doing enough to comply with the law.

Masks should undergo specific testing, as recommended by the HSE information document 282/28. This includes a series of exercises to be performed wearing the masks, over a specific time period. For each member of staff 10 minutes should be allocated for the series of exercises. There are 7 exercises, which should be performed for a minute each. If the member of staff fails one exercise, the whole series should be taken again. This is to ensure staff know exactly how to wear their masks and that the masks are fitted correctly.

About Face Fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is a method that is used to identify how fitting a facepiece matches an individual. An inappropriate facepiece will substantially reduce the needed protection, so it is required to meet the safety criteria.

Furthermore, there are two types of Face Fit Testing - qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative method is specifically designed for testing of filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks but not full face masks, as it is based on tasting or smelling a bitter, sweet or odorous compound. Whereas quantitative is designed for all types of masks and is also known as Fit Factor. It is based on numerical calculations of the efficiency of the fit.
